DsNetUK
Overview
Mackintosh Consultants has recently facilitated the funding of the UK Data Storage Network (DSNetUK) by the DTI, to follow on from the EPSRC's Storage Network and thus continue to encourage collaboration between academia and industry. A key focus of the network is on understanding the complex and inter-linked physics, materials and engineering processes behind 'conventional' and 'alternative' mass storage techniques.
The aims of the network are to:
- determine appropriate goals, aspirations and development strategies for the UK's data storage research, technology and manufacturing base
- provide routes for the successful implementation of such strategies
- promote joint industry academic bids to funding agencies for projects of mutual interest (the initial objective is £3m funding in the first three years)
- to exchange know-how and research results via meetings, workshops and staff-exchanges
Steering Committee
The Steering Committee comprises representatives from:
- Xyratex, Havant
- School of Engineering Computer Science and Mathematics, University of Exeter
- Centre for Research in Information Storage Technology, University of Plymouth
- NanoMagnetics Ltd, Bristol
- Electronic and Information Storage and Systems Research Group, Dept of Computer Science, University of Manchester
- Plasmon Data Systems, Cambridgeshire
