UK Storage Guide
Much of the important fundamental R&D work on storage devices has been undertaken in the UK, and British-based scientists and engineers continue to make vital contributions. In manufacturing, British companies have world-class reputations, with production located at home or at plants overseas.
With this in mind, Mackintosh Consultants was retained by the UK's Department of Trade & Industry to research, compile and publish a guide to provide details of all UK organisations involved in the Information Storage Industry.
Different versions of this publication, known officially as "Information Storage in the UK – a Guide to Research, Manufacture and Services" are available:
- 1st edition (1998) [0.4MB pdf file]
- 2nd edition (2000) [1MB pdf file]
- 3rd edition (2004) [1.9MB pdf file]
- abbreviated online version
- interactive complete online version
The aim of the guide is to highlight the UK’s capabilities in the information
storage area. It gives an overview of recent developments before describing
in more detail current work in universities, companies and support
organisations.
The guide is designed to be used by companies and universities, both at home and outside the UK, who may be looking for development partners or suppliers. The Government is keen to promote collaboration between UK companies and universities, and with inward investors. For example, UK Trade and Investment operates a comprehensive service for those looking to establish facilities in the UK.
